Why don’t Jews regard Jesus as an important teacher or rabbi, if not the Messiah? Putting aside messianic claims, wouldn’t Jesus be one of the most significant Jewish teachers in human history?

“They shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.” (Mark 16:18) This bizarre verse led to the creation of Christian cults of snake handlers.
In accurate translations of Jewish Scriptures, the word “Moshiach” is never translated as “Messiah,” but as “anointed.” Nevertheless, Judaism has always maintained a fundamental belief in a Messianic figure. Since the concept of a Messiah is one that was given by God to the Jews, Jewish tradition is best qualified to describe and recognize the expected Messiah. This tradition has its foundation in numerous biblical references, many of which are cited below. Judaism understands the Messiah to be a human being (with no connotation of deity or divinity) who will bring about certain changes in the world and who must fulfill certain specific criteria before being acknowledged as the Messiah.
Jehovah was proved a false prophet because he promised Canaan to Abraham and his descendants but was never able to deliver it. In an amusing Bible verse, an all-powerful “god” was on the side of the tribe of Judah (the tribe of David, Solomon and later Jesus), but this god-favored tribe was unable to drive out pagan tribes because they had iron chariots!
I dreamt my mother had died and I cried so much in my dream. What does it mean?
3) He must gather the Jewish people from exile and return them to Israel. (Isaiah 27:12-13, Isaiah 11:12)
c. The Criteria To Be Fulfilled By The Jewish Messiah
The Bible turned Jesus into a false prophet, multiple times, when devious authors of the New Testament put false and foolish words in his mouth:
Why do some children hate their parents?
6) He must influence the entire world to acknowledge and serve one G-d. (Isaiah 11:9, Isaiah 40:5, Zephaniah 3:9)
“The LORD was with the men of Judah. They took possession of the hill country, but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had chariots fitted with iron.” (Judges 1:19 NIV)
Christians tend to overvalue what Jesus taught, because of their mythical beliefs about him. In reality, Jesus taught some very questionable things, if the gospels are accurate about what he said. For instance:
How do I express sarcasm in non-dialogue text when writing a fiction novel?
“And the lord said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in.'” (Luke 14:23). This verse led to people being forced to convert to Christianity at swordpoint and gunpoint. Those who refused were often tortured and/or killed.
The third, fourth, fifth and sixth criteria have obviously not been fulfilled, either during Jesus’ time or since. Any Christian claims that these final criteria will be fulfilled in a “Second Coming” are irrelevant because the concept of the Messiah coming twice has no scriptural basis.
If Christians really believe the Bible is the “Word of God” why aren’t they demonstrating their faith by doing what the resurrected Christ commanded? How can they expect other people to believe, when they clearly don’t believe themselves? The lack of snake handlers and poison drinkers in Christian churches proves that Christians don’t believe even the sacred words of the resurrected Christ.
Jesus did not usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease. "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall man learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4)
I think it is very unlikely that Jesus said everything the New Testament claims he said. It is more than obvious that fallible human beings were putting words in his mouth. Thus it’s hard to judge Jesus as a teacher, because we don’t know what he actually said.
4) He must rebuild the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. (Micah 4:1)

The reason is obvious: All the “miracles” of Jesus were backdated, since Paul knew nothing about the “virgin birth,” nor the “star of Bethlehem,” nor angels singing carols at Jesus’s birth, nor the Magi, nor the “massacre of the innocents,” nor Jesus walking on water and raising the dead, nor the loopy “Transfiguration,” nor the even loopier ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE, which was followed by Jesus flying around like Superman as angels preached sermons, etc.
Rabbi Shraga Simmons adds:
Christians love to quote 2 Timothy 3:16, which says: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

All that spectacular nonsense was followed by Peter healing every sick person in Jerusalem and surrounding cities with his shadow, and yet no one breathed a single word of it, not even the famous Jewish historian Flavius Josephus, who grew up in Jerusalem while all these alleged “miracles” were taking place! Why did Josephus go on and on about much lesser figures when the greatest miracle worker of all time, the apostle Peter, lived just down the street from him?
And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.” (Mark 9:1)
For the New Testament claims that Joseph was a descendant of King Jeconiah, who in the Hebrew Bible was cursed to never have a descendant “sitting on the throne of David and ruling any more in Judah” (Jeremiah 22:30). Joseph’s genealogy, even if it were transmittable to Jesus, would only serve to further disqualify Jesus as the Messiah.

To summarize, we cannot know that someone is the Messiah until he fulfills all of the above criteria.
[It also bears noting that the “virgin birth” was quite obviously an after-the-fact “big fish” addition to the New Testament because the oldest gospel, Mark, says nothing about such a phenomenal event, and the evangelist Paul and other authors of the New Testament never mentioned it. The two authors who do mention the “virgin birth” disagree on pretty much every detail, suggesting they were making things up and were too far apart to keep their lies straight.]
None of the scriptures about the Messiah allow for an initial failure on all counts, followed by a “second coming.” That was an invention of Christian theologians.
BIBLE AUTHENTICITY, OR A DECIDED LACK OF IT
Why not?
Take no thought for the future. Don’t plan ahead. Just trust in “god” to provide. After all, an all-powerful “god” has his eye on the sparrow. However, sparrows die from hunger and disease, fall to predators, etc. Some animals do plan for the future, such as squirrels, dogs, apes and cuttlefish. Birds like crows, ravens, and jays plan ahead by depositing food for later retrieval. And it bears noting that no church follows this advice. Churches plan ahead for all sorts of things: building projects, future events, etc.
The Greek redactors of the NT texts were outrageous liars and they were too far apart geographically to keep their lies straight.
Peter van Poelgeest:
Jesus did not gather all the Jews to Israel.
One of the basic premises upon which Christianity rests is that Jesus was the Messiah predicted in the Jewish Bible. Judaism has always rejected this belief. Since the goal of “Hebrew Christian” missionaries is to convince Jews that Jesus did in fact fulfill the requirements of the promised Messiah, it is necessary to examine the Jewish understanding of the Messiah to understand why such claims are simply not true.
First century Israel was a tiny country with only a few cities. It wouldn’t take long to go through all the cities of Israel.
Jesus did not resurrect all the dead people who died before him.
What is your favorite cuckold experience?
There are even further problems with any attempts to use the Jewish Scriptures to prove Jesus’ genealogy through Joseph, the husband of Mary (Jesus’ mother).
“And there be eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom of Heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.” (Matthew 19:12). Christians have castrated themselves, including the early church father Origen. But it bears noting that Jesus did not castrate himself. Was he unable to receive his own teaching? A tad hypocritical, perhaps, or did someone else put these words in Jesus’s mouth?
Finally, there is the problem of the contradictory accounts of Jesus’ genealogy in Matthew, Chapter 1 and Luke, Chapter 3. The common Christian explanation of this contradiction claims that Luke’s genealogy is that of Jesus’ mother, Mary. However, this is unfounded, even according to the Greek original. In addition, it has already been established that genealogy is transferred solely through the father, making this attempted explanation completely irrelevant. Even if one could trace one’s genealogy through one’s mother, there would be the additional problem in that Luke 3:31 lists Mary as a descendant of David through Nathan, Solomon’s brother, and not through Solomon himself as is prophesied in I Chronicles 22:10 of the Jewish Bible.
Why are black people harassed more by police officers?
The author of Jeremiah said the two prophecies above were irrevocable: “Thus saith the Lord; If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season; then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.” (Jeremiah 33:20-21) But it was all bluster and both prophecies came to a hill of beans.
Jesus did not gather the Jewish people from exile and return them to Israel. (Isaiah 27:12-13, Isaiah 11:12). Rather, the Jewish people went into exile shortly after the death of Jesus and suffered through severe persecution, including various Inquisitions and the Holocaust.
“The meek will inherit the earth.” Try telling that to the victims of slavery, the Trail of Tears, the Holocaust, the Palestinian Nakba, etc.

The “suffering servant” of Isaiah 53 was clearly the nation of Israel. In fact, Isaiah stated no less than 11 times in the chapters prior to 53 that the “servant of G-d” is Israel.
Thus both completely contradictory New Testament genealogies (quite obviously faked by authors who had either not read or grokked Jewish scripture) fail the test of Messiahship and amusingly do not apply because the New Testament was redacted by adding the “virgin birth,” making the genealogies of Joseph nonsensical. And claims that one of the genealogies is for Mary are ludicrous because both specifically end with Joseph, not Mary. Only if the fantastically pure Mary married and had children with her brother could either genealogy apply to her!
The Bible said that an heir of David would always sit on the throne of Israel and would continually rule there. The prophet Jeremiah said, “For this is what the LORD says: ‘David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of Israel.’” (Jeremiah 33:17). That prophecy failed soon after David’s death, as ten of the twelve tribes of Israel were lost and Israel ceased to exist as a nation. Another Bible writer then hedged his bets drastically by saying David would always have an heir continually on the throne of the tiny province of Judea (2 Kings 8:19). But that prophecy also failed. The New Testament confirms that both prophecies failed, since King Herod was an Idumaean. And for long periods of time there was no King of Israel or Judea, as at present.

The Christian idea of a virgin birth is derived from the verse in Isaiah 7:14 describing an "alma" as giving birth. The word "alma" has always meant a young woman, but Christian theologians came centuries later and translated it as "virgin." This accords Jesus' birth with the first century pagan idea of mortals being impregnated by gods.
A careful analysis of these criteria shows us that, although Jesus was Jewish, he did not fulfill any of the other criteria. An examination of the contradictory accounts of Jesus’ genealogy demonstrates a number of difficulties with the fulfillment of the second criterion. Specifically, the New Testament claims that Jesus did not have a physical father. The Jewish Scriptures, however, clearly states that a person’s genealogy and tribal membership is transmitted exclusively through one’s physical father (Numbers 1:18, Jeremiah 33:17). Therefore, Jesus cannot possibly be a descendant of the tribe of Judah nor of King David and King Solomon.
Jesus did not fight the forces of evil in the world and overcome them.
These specific criteria are as follows:
The Messiah must be of the tribe of Judah (Genesis 49:10) and a direct male descendant of of both King David and King Solomon. (David: I Chronicles 17:11, Psalms 89:29-38, Jeremiah 33:17, II Samuel 7:12-16; Solomon: I Chronicles 22:10, II Chronicles 7:18)
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
The Hebrew word for “Messiah” is “Moshiach - .” The literal and proper translation of this word is “anointed,” which refers to a ritual of anointing and consecrating someone or something with oil (I Samuel 10:1-2). It is used throughout the Jewish Bible in reference to a wide variety of individuals and/or objects; for example, a Jewish king (I Kings 1:39), Jewish priests (Leviticus 4:3), prophets (Isaiah 61:1), the Jewish Temple and its utensils (Exodus 40:9-11), unleavened bread (Numbers 6:15), and a non-Jewish king (Cyrus king of Persia, Isaiah 45:1). *
Luke 3:31 has Joseph as a descendant of David through Nathan, Solomon’s brother, and not through Solomon himself, failing the prophecy of I Chronicles 22:10.
“Judah could not dislodge the Jebusites, who were living in Jerusalem; to this day the Jebusites live there with the people of Judah.” (Joshua 15:63)
Be a Good Samaritan and show compassion to people of other religions. Don’t be a hypocrite. And yet according to Christian theology, Jesus will not be a Good Samaritan himself, but will condemn billions of non-Christians to an infinitely cruel, purposeless hell for guessing wrong about which religion to believe!

* Some form of the Hebrew word moshiach is used over 150 times in the Jewish bible. Christians consistently translate this word as anointed, except in the ninth chapter of Daniel. In this chapter missionaries deviate from this and other correct translations in an attempt to prove that the messiah came before the destruction of the Second Temple. Rather than speaking about “the messiah,” when read in context and with a correct translation this chapter clearly speaks about two different “anointed” subjects hundreds of years apart. a) The first is the anointed King Cyrus (Isaiah 45:1) who granted permission to the Jews to return and build the Second Temple 52 years “7 weeks of years” after the destruction of the First Temple. b) The second is the anointed priesthood (Leviticus 4:3) that was terminated 434 years “62 weeks of years” later. [62 * 7 = 434]
1) He must be Jewish. (Deuteronomy. 17:15, Numbers 24:17)
FALSE PROPHECIES
As Peter van Poelgeest explains in considerable detail in OBSERVATIONS FROM THE COMMENTS, the vast majority of Jews have never accepted Jesus as the Messiah because he did not fulfill important prophecies about the Messiah. This is a summarized version:
Emphasis: If an individual fails to fulfill even one of these conditions, then he cannot be the Messiah!
Jesus did not influence the entire world to acknowledge and serve one G-d. (Isaiah 11:9, Isaiah 40:5, Zephaniah 3:9)
Another reason not to believe the Bible’s wild claims is its many failed prophecies. A few quick examples:
Were commandments to stone rape victims to death “given by the ‘inspiration’ of God”? (Deuteronomy 22:23) When rape victims are stoned to death in Muslim countries, Christians call Islam a “false religion” but the Bible commands such ghastly stonings. Were commandments to mass-murder babies and pregnant women “instruction in righteousness”? (Numbers 31:17-18) Quoting a verse from a book full of satanic commandments to murder women, babies and unborns proves absolutely nothing. Would you in your Christian wisdom join the primitive throngs splitting rape victims’ skulls open until the poor girls’ brains leaked out? If you believe abortion is a sin, how can you explain verses that command the mass murder of women who have had sex, which would include pregnant women? How do you explain only the virgin girls being kept alive, obviously as sex slaves? And the Bible contains more satanic commandments about “men of god” keeping their sex slaves for life, and passing them down as an “inheritance” to their children. If you believe Jesus is God and that God authored the Bible, will you blaspheme the name of Jesus by accusing him of authoring these satanic commandments? What will happen when the sheep are separated from the goats and you have to stand before Jesus and explain why you accused him of such incredible evils: slavery, sex slavery, the ghastly stoning to death of children, infanticide, matricide, ethnic cleansing and genocide? These are the worst crimes known to “man unkind,” to borrow a phrase from E. E. Cummings. When will Christians stop blaspheming the name of Jesus by accusing him of authoring such satanic commandments? The Bible was clearly written by primitive men, some of them worse than Hitler. Can a true religion be based on lies?
Matthew 1:12 claims Joseph was a descendant of King Jeconiah, who was cursed to never have a descendant “sitting on the throne of David and ruling any more in Judah” (Jeremiah 22:30). Thus this genealogy of Joseph would disquality Jesus, if it applied.
Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. (Mark 13:30)
Jesus did not bring world peace. (Isaiah 2:4, Isaiah 11:6, Micah 4:3)
The Bible warns us not to trust false prophets, but ironically the Bible is full of failed prophecies.
“and My servant David will be a king over them, and they will all have one shepherd, and they will walk in My ordinances, and keep My statutes, and observe them, and they shall live on the land that I gave to Jacob My servant...and I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant and I will set my sanctuary in their midst forever and My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their G-d and they will be My people. And the nations will know that I am the Lord who sanctifies Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forever.” (Ezekiel 37:24-28)
“These things” that Jesus prophesied would happen before his disciples’ generation died included: the sun being darkened, the moon not giving off light, stars falling from the heavens, and Jesus coming “in the clouds” and sending his angels to the four corners of the earth to gather the elect. Obviously nothing like what Jesus described has happened. And two thousand years later, no one has seen Jesus do what the Messiah was predicted to do, which including creating world peace and universal worship of the biblical god. Jesus has not returned in glory with the angels, nor has he rewarded every man according to his works. Every one of Jesus’s disciples tasted death long ago. These are completely failed prophecies, on every count.

All of these criteria for the Messiah are best stated in chapter 37:24-28 of the book of Ezekiel:
d. Why Jesus Could Not Have Been The Jewish Messiah
a. The Messiah According To Judaism
Jesus did not spread universal knowledge of the God of Israel, which will unite humanity as one. "God will be King over all the world – on that day, God will be One and His Name will be One" (Zechariah 14:9)
The Bible also said that the Levite priests would always offer sacrifices to their “god” continually: “Neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.” (Jeremiah 33:18) But the Jerusalem temple was destroyed twice and for long periods of time (including the present) no sacrifices were offered because the temple did not exist.
by Michael R. Burch
And it wasn’t just non-Christian Jews who failed to write about such things, it was the earliest Christians including the evangelist Paul. Why? Because the “miracles” were created and backdated into the NT texts by Greek-speaking Christians who obviously had never spoken to an eyewitness; got Middle Eastern culture, geography and timelines wrong; misquoted prophets; and constantly contradicted each other. Furthermore, they didn’t consider what they were writing to be sacred texts because they changed the texts as if they were drunk, according to the Greek philosopher Celsus in his debates with the early church father Origen.
WHY DID THE JEWS REJECT JESUS AS THE MESSIAH?
We see the same thing happening in Judges chapter 15. Here Jehovah gave the tribe of Judah an allotment of territories that included Jerusalem. At that time the great god-favored heroes Joshua and Caleb were leading the Israelites. But despite being favored by an all-powerful “god” these great heroes of faith were unable to defeat the Jebusites in order to take the Bible’s most important city!
And the Bible doesn’t even blame this failure of “god” and his great heroes on iron chariots! Apparently the Jebusites were limited to ordinary swords and spears. Or perhaps sticks and stones.
Paul also made a false prophecy that he and other Christians of his generation would still be alive when Jesus returned. Notice that Paul says “we” rather than “those” and thus includes himself:
Ezekiel, or someone pretending to be the famous prophet, boldly predicted that Nebuchadnezzar would sack and destroy Tyre, which would never be rebuilt. (Ezekiel 26:1-21) Ezekiel went on for three chapters about all the terrible punishments the “Sovereign Lord” would inflict on poor Tyre. (Ezekiel chapters 26-29) But Ezekiel later admitted that his prophecy had failed utterly, on the pages of the Bible (Ezekiel 29:18). Ezekiel then immediately predicted that Nebuchadnezzar would now sack Egypt and leave it an uninhabited wasteland for 40 years. (Ezekiel 29:9-13). Once again Ezekiel went on and on about all the terrible punishments the “Sovereign Lord” would inflict on poor Egypt, this time for five chapters. (Ezekiel chapters 29-33) But that prophecy also failed miserably. The Bible itself confirms that Ezekiel’s prophecies about Tyre were false, since according to the New Testament both Jesus and Paul visited Tyre. Egypt has never been an uninhabited wasteland for even a second in recorded history, much less at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar for 40 years.
OBSERVATIONS FROM THE COMMENTS
There is even a case of Yahweh not being able to overcome Chemosh, the tribal god of the Moabites. In 2 Kings 3, the Israelites attacked Mesha, the king of Moab. The prophet Elisha confidently prophesied that Yahweh “will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.” (2 Kings 3:18) But Mesha offered his son as a burnt offering to Chemosh and the “fury” of Chemosh was “great” against the Israelites, who were defeated and forced to retreat, and the prophecy of Elisha proved false. (2 Kings 3:27)
“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned.” (Mark 16:16) Teachings like this led to the bizarre idea that babies must be splashed with magical water by magical priests to keep an all-loving, all-wise, all-just “god” from having no choice but to send them to “hell” or “limbo”!
WAS JESUS A GREAT TEACHER, REALLY?
Emphasis: The Messiah was never meant to be an object of worship. His primary mission and accomplishment is to bring world peace and to fill the world with the knowledge and awareness of one G-d.
Jesus did not rebuild the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. (Micah 4:1) Rather, the temple was demolished by the Romans shortly after Jesus’s death.
“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.” (Matthew 16:28)
5) He must bring world peace. (Isaiah 2:4, Isaiah 11:6, Micah 4:3)
b. The Hebrew Roots Of The Word “Messiah”
Isn’t it unfathomably odd that the greatest Jewish historian failed to mention his wonder-working neighbor or his wonder-working neighborhood church?
The Christian understanding of the Messiah and Jesus differs greatly from the Jewish biblical view. These differences developed as a result of the Church’s influence during the time of the Emperor Constantine* and the Council of Nicaea that issued the Nicene Creed in 325 CE.
As Rabbi Mark Gellman explained, “Jews do not accept Jesus as the Christ (which means messiah) because Jesus did not do everything that the Messiah was supposed to do.
Furthermore, the Messiah must be a descendant of direct male descendants of King David. The Bible clearly states that a person’s genealogy and tribal membership are transmitted exclusively through one’s physical father (Numbers 1:18, Jeremiah 33:17). Therefore, Jesus cannot be a descendant of the tribe of Judah nor of King David and King Solomon, because the New Testament claims that he did not have a human father.
Bible apologists love to claim the Israelites failed to conquer other tribes because of this or that or the other “sin,” but in truth the Bible says its “god” was on the side of Judah, but was stymied by low-tech iron chariots. What would Jehovah do in the face of modern weaponry, one wonders?
2) He must be a member of the tribe of Judah (Genesis 49:10) and a direct male descendant of King David (I Chronicles 17:11, Psalms 89:29-38, Jeremiah 33:17, II Samuel 7:12-16) and King Solomon. (I Chronicles 22:10, II Chronicles 7:18)
"You will not finish going through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.” (Matthew 10:23)
The Bible even turned Jesus and Paul into false prophets.
The prophesied Messiah was to be fully human, not G-d in the flesh.
Jesus made similar claims to his disciples according to the authors of Matthew and Mark:
The main problem with New Testament authenticity is not that contemporary Romans failed to write about events occurring in a distant minor province, but that not a single literate Jew living at the time of Jesus wrote a single word about breathtaking miracles happening in rapid-fire succession in their own backyard.
